Birmingham City once again failed to win at home in the league against Neil Harris’ Cardiff. The last time The Blues won at home in the league dates back to 26th October where they beat a struggling Luton Town.

Jude Bellingham started for Blues, David Davis dropped to the bench as Ivan Sunjic started following a short term suspension. Lukas Jutkiewicz lead the line, with Dan Crowley, Kerim Mrabti and Jeremie Bela starting behind The Blues’ top scorer.

The game started in the best way for Blues, Dan Crowley and Kerim Mrabti looked the most likely to unlock The Bluebirds.

Despite all the creative play Blues assembled together, the goal came in scrappy fashion. A ball in from Dan Crowley, got helped on by Bela who found Jude Bellingham to stab home from close range. The youngster told the fans that he was ‘staying here’, despite rumours saying he was off to big guns Manchester United.

In the 18th minute, Blues nearly doubled there lead. The ball fell to Jeremie Bela, who looked to catch Smithies out. He unleashed his effort from 40 yards out and it just clipped the crossbar. So close from the Frenchman.

12 minutes later, Blues were in again. Mrabti hooked a ball up to Jutkiewicz, who headed it down for Jude Bellingham who somehow had his effort saved by Alex Smithies. The chance looked harder to miss than score, but full credit has to go to the ‘keeper who made a cracking save.

Half-time came and 16 year old Jude Bellingham was the scorer of the goal that separated the two sides.

Cardiff came out a different team in the second half – putting pressure on The Blues back four and never giving Pep’s men any time on the ball.

Early into the second period, Blues nearly conceded a penalty. A one on one battle with Roberts and Tomlin saw Roberts come off best in a physical battle. The referee waved all appeals away.

After lots of pressure, Cardiff found their much deserved equaliser. A cross whipped in with pace found Lee Tomlin who headed straight past Lee Camp.

The whole second half rarely saw Blues go into Cardiff’s half. Persistent pressure nearly saw The Bluebirds go ahead, a powerful effort by Lee Tomlin hit the outside of the post.

Straight after, Ivan Sunjic found Lukas Jutkiewicz, who headed the ball on target, but was somehow denied by Alex Smithies.

The full-time whistle went and the two teams had to settle for a point.

The game summed up Blues’ season. Starting off well and then falling at the final hurdle. Blues will search for their much needed 3 points against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
