It was announced today via the official website that David Stockdale and Cheick Kieta will be departing Blues after their contracts expire in June.

The club will also not be taking up the option of extending Jefferson Montero’s loan from Swansea City.

Stopper Stockdale was Harry Redknapp’s first signing for Blues back in the summer of 2017, signing from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Making 39 appearances, the 34-year-old was out of favour for Garry Monk as Blues took Lee Camp under their wings as the new number 1.

Promising left-back Keita joined for an undisclosed fee from Italian side Virtus Entella and hit the ground running with his fierce pace and impressive footwork.

However, suffering an injury in the next season, he found it hard to get back into the starting lineup with Jonathan Grounds Cohen Bramhall before him in the pecking order.

Since then, the youngster made loan moves to Bologna and Eupen before returning to Blues this campaign where he has been training ever since.

Montero joined Blues on deadline day from Swansea and many Blues fans were excited to see what he could offer. However, it weren’t quite enough as he only appeared 19 times, 14 of those as a substitute. His first start ended in a two-month-long thigh injury and never really made an impact.

It seems the club is already getting rid of the deadwood, with the announcement of Jacques Maghoma and Jonathan Grounds also leaving this summer.
