Both sides have veered in contrasting directions since the last meeting between the two sides in September 2011 with the hosts trophy count rising by thirteen (Including three Charity Shields) in that time.
Blues, who have had little to shout about since beating Arsenal 2-1 in the 2011 League Cup final will need just about everything to go their way if they are to produce another giant killing and reach the fourth round this weekend.

Manchester City 2-0 Birmingham City - 21/09/2011
Blues failed at the first hurdle to defend their League Cup triumph of the previous season with two first-half goals putting Chris Hughton’s team to the sword. Mario Balotelli and Owen Hargreaves were on target as Roberto Mancini’s men eased into the fourth round. Blues were not too disheartened however as Hughton’s men had a European Tour and a Play-Off charge to address.
