Karanka has tonight opened up on the Rekeem Harper transfer link, following the 1-0 defeat at home to Preston.

He told the Birmingham Mail he is impressed with the 20-year-old as he can offer a lot to his current Blues side:

“The only thing I can tell you is that I like the player, when I have games I don’t focus on the market but it is true he is a player who I like.

“I like a lot of things, his quality, his energy, his experience because he is a young player who has played a few games and he has got promotion, which is important.

Aitor then when on to outline how bringing a player that can play in a No.8 role will be important moving forward:

“Ivan and Maikel are doing an amazing job but both of them are more or less the No. 6 position.

“To play the style I like to play that link with a No.8 and No. 10 and with the striker and the wingers, I think if we can do it it is going to be a big push for us.”

Asked whether or not the loan move would result in a more long term or permanent one, he responded:

“I don’t know, I don’t know what is going to happen in two weeks. If we can sign him and bring him here for these six months that would be perfect.

“And if he comes and does good and everybody understands it is better for everybody to extend his contract it will be perfect.

“The first thing that has to happen is he has to come.”

Harper, who has experience in the Championship after featuring 13 times in The Baggies’ promotion push last season is no stranger to the physicality of this league.

After tonight’s performance, many Blues fans were quick to assess Sunjic’s overall game and what he brings to the side.

With Harper in the middle of the field, it would be certain there would be more composure on the ball and link up play, rather than just having two aggressive tacklers in the form of Sunjic and Kieftenbeld.

With San Jose almost cementing his place at center back with two stellar performances against Boro and tonight against Preston, there is logic in this move.
