Nigerian Youngster Ifeoluwa Oni will make the switch from League One side Charlton FC.

According to website All Nigerian Soccer, Oni has signed a scholarship with Karanka’s side and is expected to join the team before the 2021/2022 season.

Although relatively unheard of, the teenager is highly rated by Charlton FC and was part of the youth side that reached the final of the SuperCupNI (an International Youth tournament held in Northern Ireland). He operates as a versatile midfielder with All Nigerian Soccer describing him as a box-to-box midfielder that is also good as a technical player.

Noticeable players from the Charlton academy include England Youth internationals Ademola Lookman, Ezri Konza, and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

The Addicks have been a club prioritising playing their younger players in the First Team recently, with current manager Lee Bowyer aiding the process. There is certainly encouragement then that the youngster has come through a highly regarded academy that competes with some high-profile Premier League clubs in London.

It’s likely investment for the following season. or one with great potential for the future of the First Team but the signing is hopeful nonetheless. The Blues academy, which was drastically remodeled in December 2020, has produced some noticeable players in recent years so signings like this can be rewarded in years to come, even at first, the impact seems distant.

The future of the academy is a different set-up now, with the introduction of B and c teams replacing the U18’s so bringing in academy prospects is great for the future of the club, which will do well to nurture young talent into the First Team.

Fans will be hoping Oni can be a great addition to the youth of the club in the meanwhile.
