Spending the most of the last 2 seasons in his home country, Fran Villalba is back in training at Blues, according to journalist Brian Dick.

Making only 17 appearances in a Blue shirt since signing from Valencia back in 2019, Villalba was apart of Almeria’s promotion season since then.

However, the Spaniard is no longer apart of their plans as they took the option not to buy the midfielder.

Segunda division side Sporting Gijon have been interested in taking him on loan and Blues have been said to be open to sending him back out on loan for the final season of his contract.

There has always been speculation that he doesn’t want to be in this country, however Lee Bowyer has made it known he’ll be giving him a fair chance as he returned to Wast Hills this week:

“He didn’t get much of a break, he was in the play-offs in Spain. He looks neat and tidy. This is the first I’ve seen of him. It’s about ten days now. He’s a nice fella, he’s working hard. It’s nice to see.

“We will have to see how we go through the summer, we have still got over three weeks for our first game. Everybody who is training is working hard to try to earn that shirt.

“They are competing against each other. I wouldn’t say it’s fair to mention just Fran. Everyone who is training every single day, none of them have the shirt. Maybe in the future he might, we will have to see.”
