The highly rated u23s midfielder Ryan Stirk has joined Mansfield Town on a standard season long loan.

The 20-year-old had a successful season with the u23s, winning the Professional Development League national title. Blues fans would have seen Stirk make his first team debut in the penultimate game of the 2020/21 against Cardiff City, where Blues suffered a 4-0 defeat after now Fulham winger Harry Wilson bagged a hattrick. Stirk also featured in the final game of the season against Blackburn Rovers, but despite a 5-2 drumming, Stirk certainly gave a good account of himself.

Mansfield Town finished 16th in League 2 last season, ending up on a total of 56 points after winning four of their last five games. Nigel Clough’s side take on Bristol Rovers on the first weekend of the league 2 season on Saturday, August 7th. With Blues not playing until 8:00pm that day, it may be a game to keep an eye on!

The Verdict:

Ryan Stirk is clearly a very talented midfielder for his age, and we have seen this in the few performances he has made in the first team. However, with the likes of Gardner, Sunjic and now Woods in his way, the chances of first team action this season are very slim. This move for Stirk can only be a positive one for his development, with regular first team action at a good level of football. Giving the Blues player a full playing season and experience at a higher level he is currently at, will only allow him to develop his skill set and current abilities.
