Blues are set to go back in for former transfer target Alfie Mawson this summer, according to a report from The Sunday People (print edition, April 24).

The 28-year-old has made just six appearances this campaign as Blues reignite their interest in the centre back after failing to capture his signature in January.

Finding himself firmly down the pecking order behind Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo, Mawson will be hoping a permanent move away from Craven Cottage will be on the cards.

With his contract expiring in the end of the summer, Fulham will be looking to cash in on their former £20million rated man instead of letting him go for free.

However, with his career being plagued by injuries it would be a very high-risk move. With Nico Gordon stepping up into the team and attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, Blues could be left very short in the central position and Mawson would be more than suitable cover.

It also looks like Harlee Dean’s playing days at Blues are over so it’s no surprise to see the Fulham man linked so early before the summer transfer window opens.
