Blues are in talks to appoint former QPR manager Mark Warburton as the new boss, according to Football Insider.

This news follows talk of Lee Bowyer on the brink of being sacked as Birmingham manager now the season is over.

Warbuton ended his three year stint at the London club with a 1-0 victory over Swansea on Saturday.

It was announced on 28th April that he would be leaving the club but he stayed to take charge for the remaining two fixtures.

QPR ended their season comfortably in mid-table in 11th place. However, their form dipped after being playoff contenders early on in the campaign.

Lee Bowyer still has one year of his contract left and if the Blues board do pull the trigger a lump sum of £750,000 would have to be paid in compensation, according to The Sun.

With a takeover of the club imminent it remains to be seen when the club will appoint Warburton as manager at St Andrews.
