Released Fulham defender Alfie Mawson ‘remains an option’ for Lee Bowyer as he looks to bolster his backline this summer, reports BirminghamLive.
Blues were first linked with the 28-year-old six months ago, and it was reported Blues had informally agreed on a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Englishman, but the club didn’t have the financial capacity to make the move happen.
Then, just two months ago, it was reported by The Sunday People that Blues were set to rekindle their interest in the centre-back.
Mawson will officially become a free agent tomorrow with his Fulham contract expiring today.
Finding himself firmly down the pecking order behind Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo, he will be hoping a permanent move away from Craven Cottage will be on the cards.
The defender has made just six appearances this campaign. With his career being plagued by injuries it would be a very high-risk move, but one that could prove to be vital as Blues currently have very few numbers.
