Blues are eyeing a loan move for Derby defender Kristian Bielik, according to Birmingham Live.

The Polish International is expected to spend the upcoming campaign aeway from Pride Park with a host of clubs interested in signing him, including Watford.

Blues fans will know the 24-year-old from his time at the club in the latter stages of the 2016/17 season where manager Gianfranco Zola loaned him from Arsenal.

The Gunners sold him to Derby in 2019 but since then he’s been plagued with injuries. However, he did make a comeback towards the end of last season and scored a great overhead kick against Bowyer’s Blues as they came back from a 2-0 deficit.

Blues only have one permanent signing going into the new season in the form of goalkeeper John Ruddy.

If this loan signing does go through, Bielik will be added to the list of Sanderson, Placheta and Trusty.

The Verdict

What is most attractive about Bielik is how versatile he is. He can easily slot in a back three or even higher up the field in defensive midfield.

He was also highly rated at Blues and an environment he’s already familiar with could sway his decision.

However, if the likes of Watford come knocking it would be hard to turn that move down as they look to instantly return to the Premier League.

Bielik would no doubt be Blues’ best bit of business so far and if he can manage to stay fit we’ll be even more solid at the back.
