After the fantastic 3-1 win against Southampton last Sunday, the Blues are getting ready to take on Sunderland tomorrow, who sit second in the table.

Jade Pennock is available again for the Blues, ready to pair up with Libby Smith. Siobhan Wilson is still out with a long-term ACL injury, but we’ve been seeing her running and getting back to fitness quicker than we expected which is amazing!

Despite being named on last week’s team sheet, young striker Delphi Cole has signed with West Brom on a dual-registration, so is unlikely to feature. It still remains to be seen whether recent signings Cho So-hyun and Choe Yu-Ri will feature in tomorrow’s squad.

The Lasses have had a good run of form in their last five games, winning three and drawing two. By comparison, the Blues have lost three, drawn one and won one. That being said, the Blues will no doubt be looking to keep the momentum going from the win last weekend and put on a show at St Andrew’s.

Melanie Reay’s side can prove a tough test though, with Blues losing 3-1 at St Andrew’s last time around. Jade Pennock got on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t enough as Sunderland went away with the three points. Learnings will have been taken from that game back in January, The Lasses played a more physical game last time around and Blues just need to make sure they stick to their game plan. When Blues have the ball, they produce some really nice passages of play, but let Sunderland have it and they will take their chances.

The Verdict

Despite everything on paper being against the Blues for this one, I think we’ll win. We beat Southampton last week, who were top of the table going into that game, when not many people expected us to. I think tomorrow will be a closer game though and I’m going with 2-1 Blues.

Looking forward to seeing you there, Bluenoses!
