Blues travel to Blackburn Rovers hoping to achieve back-to-back victories for the first time since October.
Wayne Rooney’s long awaited first win for the Blues came on Saturday at the expense of a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side.
The game itself was not one to be remembered but the only important statistic to take from the game is the crucial three points that the Blues claimed.
After a cagy and largely uneventful first half, Blues found themselves behind after a free-kick came back off the post to leave an empty net for the approaching Wednesday player, George Byers.
Despite this, the home side showed great character to reply almost instantly with an excellently taken strike from Juninho Bacuna to put the sides level going into the break.
Much like the first half, chances were few and far between in the second 45 minutes, with Siriki Dembele having the most notable effort which flew just past the post.
The all-important winner came from an unlikely source, Jordan James, with the midfielder netting just his second goal of the season.
After his initial shot being saved, he showed excellent feet and composure to keep the move alive and take the ball around the goalkeeper to finish into an empty net.
Having Lee Buchanan return from injury helped Blues massively as this gave them far more defensive stability, also having Ethan Laird fully fit in the side too.
The next test is likely to be a little tougher, with Blackburn sitting 10th in the table after winning three of their last five games.
Blackburn are 21st in the home league table and Blues are interestingly 21st in the away table which should give them every incentive to follow up Saturday’s victory with another in the North West.
Blackburn’s danger man is likely to be Sammie Szmodics. The midfielder has already netted eleven times this season, making him the current league top scorer.
